Standing near the painting
Invisible to the world
The painter watched his art fade by
The even strokes he swirled
A smoker blew his smoke onto it
The pictured sky was charred
A toddler threw her trash on it
Where was the museum guard?
He stood by watching helplessly
Was there nothing he could do?
He worked so hard to make this work
It was appreciated by so few.
Should art not be protected?
One would think it should
Then why did we make the most valuable art,
As damaged as we could?
