Sadness

One day Sadness came a-knockin’
And I refused to answer the door
That decision changed my life
For Sadness may never be ignored
He held out his hand of dark despair
And smashed down my front porch
Then dramatically entered my happy heart
And left it happy no more

I searched for my shield of happy thoughts
And I thought of everything cheery
But Sadness dominates all emotions
And left my heart feeling weak and weary
His face is a blob of black oblivion
And his eyes are red and teary
For as he passes in and out of my breaking soul
He leaves my vision bleary

He has left me on the floor
Desperately gasping for air
But nobody can help me in this state
As my heart and my soul are teared
They are teared apart and ripped to shreds
As I lay here absorbed in prayer
Please, just let me start over
And Sadness won’t find me, I swear

So I lay here, trembling
With my last emotions aghast
So I lay here, sorrowful
Pondering my long lost past
So I lay here, thinking
About everything I have broken and harassed
Maybe I am meant to disappear

For not all lives are meant to last
