The Protectors

A nightly watch

A daily deed

A steadfast oath

To keep from greed

A silent vigil

Of the strong

Who will not yearn

And will not long

Who will not flee

And will not falter

But will lie

Upon the altar

Who will not hunger

And will not thirst

Content with life

And fit to burst

Pleased to fall

Upon the sword

They are brave men

Who keep their word

Protect the weak

And fight to keep

The world at peace

So men can sleep

I literally came up with this randomly on the bus when my friend, who was writing a poem, metioned that she spelled watch, like wrist watch, incorrectly. I then quickly grabbed my device to type this in my notes before I forgot what I wanted to say. I also want to say that you could take this poem many ways. It could be describing a mother protecting her child, the army protecting civilians or even angels protecting humans.
