Identity by Kristiane Alphson
Who am I to you, and who am I to me?
What are my thoughts, and what do I believe?
The answer is unclear, for I am constantly changing.
There are words and moments that overtake my mind,
and people that have stolen my heart, and stolen my time.
I laugh, I sing, and I write my thoughts,
I’ve had times alone, where I’ve felt utterly caught,
by the notion that this is it, and then I’m gone,
and all that’s left of me, is a distant song.
These conflicting thoughts hide away for now,
For the moments of light, make it worth it somehow.
I may never fully know my whole identity,
but I know the times I’ve shared, and the things I’ve seen.
Shattered glass turns into a mirror of light,
and my fears of the dark turn into this glowing night.
Life is a jar of moments, and minutes, and hours,
Held in our hands, like a delicate and blooming flower.
With every petal brings a new opportunity,
so embrace who you are,
in all of your beauty.

I wrote this because I find it is so incredibly difficult to come to terms with you you are and your purpose in life. This poem was a reflection of how I struggle with these thoughts, but the positive aspects of life make the unknown and fear worth it.
