Annual Vacation

One time every year we would go there,
Our car would barely be able to take us the whole 134.7 miles
The car was very sweaty and uncomfortable,
The whole trip there was miserable
We all knew it would be worth it.

My little brother would always try to start singing songs
I thought he was just being annoying though.
My mom wanted to play eye spy with random objects outside of the car,
My dad was flying down the road urgently trying to get there

As we recognize our exit we start to smell the salty air
We start to hear the waves crashing on shore
We start to feel our hearts jumping out of our chests
We look at the locals wave at us from the beach to our car on the road,
We feel very welcome
We are rushing to our hotel,
Check in and change out so we can go swim

We get to the ocean and re-experience our trip from last year
Strangers becoming best friends over a game of sand volleyball,
My brothers learning to surf from the local people

As every wave splashed onto my feet,
All the stressors from that day got washed away
The salty air cleansed my soul,
Leaving a permanent love for the beach in my heart
