Her Canvas

She picked up her brush and began with a blank slate
Her hands shook as she struggled to make her lines straight
She outlined the eyes and then the jaw
Then took a step back to stare in awe

She created shadows and added dimension
Hoping this would bring her work some attention
Tracing the nose and then the lips
The paint dripping like blood from her fingertips

She expressed herself with the art that she created
Knowing what she made illuminated
Spending time seeking perfection
Gazing at what would be her reflection

She took her time and smiled when finished
All her flaws had suddenly diminished
In front of her vanity she took her place
As she worked on the canvas that was her face

What inspired me to write about this piece is my passion for makeup. I see it as a form of art and I want others to take that away as well. I want people to understand the time and the effort that goes into something that we feel passionate about. I also wanted to share the story of a girl who is unsure about herself. A story about a girl who is passionate about something and turns to it to escape the rest of the world. Her passion is what helps her feel good about herself, it is what helps her feel strong. I wanted to share a story about a girl, I wanted to share the story about me.
