Have you ever gotten that knot of happiness deep in your gut? The same feeling that drug addicts get from the chemicals they inhale to be happy? It’s an awesome feeling, but you don’t get the same feeling with drugs as you do with happiness. Happiness is the best drug you could ever use! I get that feeling whenever I play the sport I love, baseball. It feels like it’s the first time I fell in love every time that I step foot on the diamond. It’s like a fresh and sweet cake in an overweight beings hands, or like discovering about a million dollars that has been buried for years! It’s an amazing feeling is what I’m trying to say and there’s only one way to get it, doing what you love. I will explain what happens to give me that feeling and hopefully it will help you out.
Its Saturday morning and I have awaken with a smile on my face, knowing that I am going to go to my last game of the season. So I wake up and skip to the bathroom in joy to take a hot shower. When I get out I go in my baseball bag and grab my pants, under armor, and my Lake Stevens jersey with number thirty seven on the back and with my last name spread across my shoulders. I get in the car and we take off to the game. We speed to the gas station to get red bull and some quick food. We drive all the way to Edmonds and pretty much get stuck at every light. We show up to the field and I walk into the dugout and slide on my evo shields and sleeves. I grab my glove and go out and play catch with my friend Jake, and he is exited.
“I’m going to hit a home run today”, said Jake.
“Ill believe it when I see it man.” I said laughing. He isn’t much of a hitter but he can work the infield day and night. So the game starts and 1st inning flies by in a blink of an eye and when I get up to bat I take a deep breath to calm down. Ball one is called by the umpire followed by two more. The coach gives me a green light to swing at whatever and the next pitch, I fouled it off into the stands. The second pitch was a perfect curveball and I swung and missed it by centimeters. His catcher calls a time out and goes up to talk to him. I stand there and wait for him to run back to home plate. He squats down and calls the pitch, and then for a split second I saw his hand on the ball in a curve ball formation. So I step out of the box a step and swing inside and hit the ball over the left fields head. I ran all the way to 3rd base in a hurry, it was a close call but I was safe. Innings are flying by and it’s already the 7th inning and I’m on 2nd base, the score is 7-7. Jake was up to bat and he looked and laughed at his coach giving him the bunt sign and he leans back and swings the hardest has ever swung. He made contact with the ball and the ball sailed through the air looking like it’s going over the fence, so I start running and the center field made an amazing catch, stealing his homerun. So I rushed back to 2nd base and took back off from second and I heard everyone yelling “go four, go four!” That was not stopping me from running all the way. So I turned 3rd base and all I saw was the catcher with the ball in his glove, and so I dove over the catcher in a hurry and slid to home plate scoring the winning run. They all ran on the field yelling and chanting random shouts. We talked about the season and plays and about next year immediately after the game and then we all went home.

The whole way home I had that one special feeling in my gut because we just won our last game of the season. I pull in the driveway and go immediately to the freezer and ice my sore arm. When I get in the shower I notice how sleepy and sore I am. I get out of the shower and get into sweats and lay in bed. As my knot in my stomach fades away, I anticipate next season to feel that one feeling that I can’t let go of. Happiness can be very short, but for that amount of time that you are happy, you can’t get enough of it. Be happy.
