The Bagel
I stopped to pick up the bagel
rolling away in the wind.
Annoyed with myself
for having dropped it
as if it were a portent.
Faster and faster it rolled,
with me running after it,
many eyes watched me.
It was fascinating,
how it just kept rolling
like the wheel of a bike.
The cream cheese
drew a line on the street.
Suddenly, a women
stepped right into
the white line.
My point of view went from
the broken white line
slowly up to her narrow face.
Suddenly, my view stopped.
It stopped right at her elegant hand.
In which
she stretched
a new,
delicious,
bigger,
bagel
to me.
Up at her face,
I saw a wide grin.
