The Theme of Doubt

It was all she could do
To cling onto the remnants of her intelligence

With her natural sense of hesitation
Fighting against her true will
Reasoning was gone with the wind

“A price to pay, but with doubt in the way
Time might as well not exist.”

She dug her teeth into the flesh of her lip in frustration.
Ambiguity echoed in her eyes

Tattered fingernails were slipped into her mouth
She began nibbling at them in frustration
But then suddenly a self reprimand darted from her lips
When she recalled that she was attempting to abandon the habit

“Smile.
You do remember what one of those look like, don’t you?”

Happiness.
Was that truly more than a memory?
Distant thoughts,
Caressed in fog, contaminated with truth
Rushed back to her in a cascade of sentiment

“Trust me for once.
You won’t regret this”
