“Guys, you will be having an assignment about community service, it is going to be your final project.” Ugh, but it’s almost the end of the year! I was so worried about my grade, so I really wanted to do good on this project.
While I was thinking of places I could go, my mom told me that there is a place called “Villas Asistenciales.” This was an organization that offers a space for kids and teens in need. This place gives this kids the tools for their growth and progress in the day while they would’ve encounter themselves alone at home.I was confident that it was going to be a good place where I could make my 3 hours of community service.
I told my mom that I wanted to go to that organization to make my 3 hours of community service, so she contacted the owner of the organization and she was more than happy to accept me at Villas Asistenciales.
The big day came, and as I entered this place, I wasn’t very confident that I was going to have a very good time. As they assigned me a class (the one I was going to work in), I got to a very big and noisy class. “Oh my,” I was thinking, “how am I going to survive 3 hours here?”
“Excuse me, can you please tie my shoe?”
I looked down and saw a little boy, no older that five, with the biggest brown eyes I have ever seen. I played with him and his little friends during recess, and helped them in their studies. They are just kids, what fault do they have that they can’t receive the best education? I realized that children’s hearts are more pure than any human soul, because they will never wish bad desires to anyone, and they will always look towards the sun when there is no other light to be found in the darkest of places.
As I looked on the clock, only 10 minutes were left. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave Villas because I didn’t only learn that helping is essential in life, but much more than that. I learned that when we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed. This means that we need to understand that when we give, we are changing a lot of people's lives although we might not realize it. We must stop to be egotistical and start being compassionate towards others, we must be leaders during the journey of our life, because this is the only one we have to live.
