Masks
My smiles hide to much
My laugh has been fake for so long
I act different to all I encounter
No one knows the real me
And once one gets close enough to piece it together
My walls get higher
Their stairs disappear as if they were never there
I lock everyone out and when they wonder why
...
I fall silent and put on a new mask
Each person sees a different ‘me’
Each occasion adds more to my walls
Some wonder what my walls hide
Why they are so tall
What is inside...
In truth I hardly know
I put on so many masks so that no one else can see
But now... Now I am just lost
Lost in my masks
