Losing Sparks

I watch as the next generation walk with their heads held high,
Spring in their step as they pass on by.
I can see excitement on their faces,
As they look around at all the empty spaces.

But little do they know this is where things changed,
Where people begin to become deranged.
Where all becomes known,
And where you see your true colors shown.

Where you learn just how evil the world can be,
Where you long for someone to set you free.
Where it’s easy to choose the wrong path,
Where everyday is full of wrath.

The next day, as I watch everyone enter with solemn faces,
They no longer wish to return to these places.
Hurry! I’m worried they may not be fine,
They lost their spark, I know because I lost mine.

The transition from an elementary school to a public middle school is hard because you have to move out of childhood and realize how hard the world can be. This is inspired by that moment when you've realized that you've changed and so has everyone else.
