The Moon's Disappearance
Moon, you are a lovely sight.
You hug the Earth with arms of light.
You bring us joy and grant us peace,
From daily troubles, give release.
You never pause or break from toil.
A constant friend, you’re always loyal.
If clouds roll in and bar our view
Making it so we can’t see you.
Birds tweet a mournful song
and buffalo leave their thundering throng.
The usually-noisy frogs stay still
and we wait beside our window sill
to see if you’ll reappear.
When you do, we’ll shout a cheer
for the moon has reappeared,
But soon you’ll fall, and without a call
the sun will steal the sky.
Unwanted, you’ll heave a great sigh.
Wondering why as you drop from sight,
the people forgot how you lit the night.

I originally wrote a small stanza in 4th grade with this same theme. I then expanded on that stanza and, when I edited the poem, I ended up taking out the original stanza.
