Are the good times really over

red rover red rover

will I ever be the same

childhood left

and growing up came

I got taller, the days got shorter

ring around the rosy

everyone became nosy

all of a sudden people cared

they laughed,taunted,and snared

We all changed

the work load got bigger

we're now under pressure

we're all scrutinized and compared

every detail counts, even our measure

You are either smart or dumb

ugly or pretty

there is no in-between

we are now to old for halloween

the good times are over

The author's comments:

I believe that teens across the nation, including myself, struggle with the reality that they are becoming an adult. Our lives have surpassed the days of nursery rhymes and parental dependence. It is difficult to accept the new responsibilities that the world places on our shoulders. My poem reflects my personal emotions about leaving my childhood behind and looking to the future.
