School Safety
Stop
Sirens blaze as children play.
While once again the nation begins to pray.
Gunshots are heard,
as children try to learn.
Duck and cover.
Grab a sister and a brother.
Here we go again.
Let the horror begin.
Lives are lost.
Families would pay any cost,
to have their youth
there for them to soothe.
Children live in fear,
that the end is near.
They laugh and play,
with the risk of it being their last day.
What has our nation come to?
Will there ever be safety for me or you?
Let us make a change,
and stop the lunatics in this day and age.

As a student in this day and age of school shootings, my own fear inspired me to write this peace. Every day, I go to school with a school shooting somewhere in mind and I believe that it is ridiculous that I even need to have that fear in my mind. It is time that our nation works together so that children no longer have to have the fears described in my poem.
