Imagination

Moonlight comes and moonlight goes,
Across this valley filled with snow.
Everyday and every night,
Moonlight shines within my sight.

But I shall not be free enough to dance between it's rays.
I am but a prisoner to stand within a cage.

The wolves of the North gather everyday at dusk,
They ask me who my captor is and how I broke his trust.

My captor is my one true love, a being fair and wild,
With midnight hair and starry eyes he is the forest's child.
His trust in me was never broke, instead it was his heart.
I tried to show him wonder but instead he fell apart.

People of the outside world would never understand,
And so he lived in shadows and let go of my hand.
Life is hard enough he says, without people asking why,
The one they thought they knew and loved grew wings and learned to fly.

And so he locked me in this cage and threw away the key,
Although he gave the power to create what lies before me.

I may not touch my thoughts of gold, I may not set them free.
And so I am a prisoner to only ever see.

I have told my story but the wolves don't understand,
How someone could abandon me and the dreams that I command.

My one true love was scared you see, he did not wish to fly,
For once his feet have left the ground, his dreams could surely die.

I tell him to embrace the risk and discover every turn,
But still he shivers at the thought of failed dreams that burn.

And so I am a prisoner, and also is my love,
He will never know the beauty of the endless sky above.
