Fun In Frames
Loyal, slobbering, heaving mass
The ball she’s stopped to throw at last
Staggering, grinning, rolling tongue
Barking as he starts to run
Pictures hang inside their frames
Fun from long forgotten days
Splashing, paddling in canal
Bullfrog jumps, he snarls and growls
Shaking, dashing through the house
Leaves prints on her satin blouse
Moments caught inside a pane
Fun from long forgotten days
Winding up to throw the pitch
The hard white ball lands in the ditch
Fur Ball runs to scoop it up
Finds a cricket, just his luck
Camera caught them, time and space
Fun from long forgotten days
Slam! Crash! Through the house
Fur Ball thinks he’s found a mouse
Click! Snap! On her lap
She screams as if under attack
Love above the fire place
Fun from long forgotten days
Rainy and wet all that long day
Fur Ball stays inside to play
Cushy pillows, comfy rugs
His warm belly does she rub
Love and laughter haunt this place
Fun from long forgotten days
Coyote howls in the night
Fur Ball’s household wakes in fright
Dog and girl are all alone
But she is never on her own
Smile lingers on her face
Fun from long forgotten days
Slobbery, slimy yellow fun
Fur Ball wants to play and run
Groaning lightly as she falls
Fur Ball’s human drops the ball
Forever locked inside a frame
Fun from long forgotten days
Fur Ball’s human doesn’t rise
Sadness lingers in his eyes
Forever thought they’d run and play
Cancer took his human away

I was feeling blue
So I wrote this poem
It sounds blue too
About the ones they leave home
