September in Pictures
Past 2 Months
(to the tune of Jack and Jill)
twirl-a-whirl
the colors swirl
and the trees go blurring by
nothing is heard
save for a bird
and laughter of the kids and I
gritty gray
long happy day
out on the town with my friends
it’s ten o’clock
done with our walk
bench by the fence where our night ends
silver chairs
way up the stairs
a little french bakery
one, two, three, four
through an open door
weighed down with matching pastries
autumn chill
on cider hill
apple bags and baseball hats
white blonde and black
laughs do not lack
among trees arranged on flats
makeup flung
stuck-out tongues
getting ready for the dance
me and my friends
with odds and ends
unbridled nerves shown in a glance
dachshund's here
coffees cause cheer
sidewalk outside donut shop
leash on comet
love to walk it
with each step the dog’s ear does flop
blank stone wall
makes us three tall
beside the river at noon
kicking shoes off
a chilled cough
across our backpacks leaves are strewn
a snapshot
a moment caught
transition with friends to fall
photo a day
color or gray
it’s important to keep them all

This is a poem from a portfolio that I created that focused mainly on nature
(specifically autumn)and nostalgia. To continue with this theme, I decided to write a poem with the same rhyme scheme and rythym as the famous nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill." Each stanza of this poem is describing a photo I found on my phone from the month of September. Hope you enjoy! :)
