You walk in the door
The day of the meet
The air smells of sweat
And there's chalk at your feet

We quickly warm up and stretch
I look around at the other teams
My coach calls us over to get ready
She says be careful on the beam

Off to my first event--- floor
I hear the music come on playing fast
I hope my routine is not a bore
I start stampeding right into a tumbling pass

I quickly move about on the floor
All eyes on me as I finish my routine
The judges score me a 9.75
Not my best but it’s a good score

Next event is beam not my best
Shaking nervously as i hop in the beam
Tumbling six feet over a four inch beam
The satisfaction of sticking a skill

I stay tight so i don’t wobble
I can feel the judges eyes on me
Then comes the dismount
Off the beam landing clean

My favorite event--- vault
I stare at the vault 70 feet away
I salute to the judges and I’m off
Running fast down the runway

I set for the skill
Powerfully punching the spring board
Hands on the vault then quickly popping off
Landing it, knowing I just scored

Last event finally---bars
I went over to the chalk bucket
Then I wait for the judges to call my name
Knowing that I am going to stick it

Grasping the wooden bar
Swinging from low to high
I let go of the bar going for the dismount
I land it and I let out a big sigh

My coach is very proud of all of us
We get our medals for our scores
It was a great meet after all
I can’t wait until the next four.
