Dark Nightmare
At the dark of night I’m alone
Everyone has long gone asleep.
The floor boards unwittingly creak.
I wait for the known unknown-
To devour me in its darkness.
I witness a beast; it’s heartless.
Its icy gaze turns me to stone.
Eyes so cold the paralyze me.
A mocking grin full of sick glee.
The fear in me will only grow,
Grow stronger in my grim nightmares,
Nightmares of staggering despair.
But courage becomes a cyclone,
Crashing past me like winds of hope,
Keeping me upright like firm rope.
It is time to conquer the throne.
To overthrow my dark fears and...
I see dawn of my surreal dream.

I was inspired to write this piece when I realized the actuality of fears. They are just monsters in your dreams that can be vanquished through a little bit of courage and hope.
