A poem

I am...
I am from an inspiring mother and father,
from Gerber food products to grandma and grandpa’s home style cooking,
I am from welcoming friends,
from long days and long nights and fast coming weekends.
I am from a beautiful Michigan, pure it is known for,
from being outside to playing I-Spy.
I am from annual family holiday parties,
from “be on time” to “don’t be tardy”.
I am from grandma’s delicious crispy baking,
from homemade donuts to homemade coconut pie.
I am from a small town with the name of Flushing,
from new styles to popular hits on the radio, now are you blushing?
I am from a bedroom I could always call mine,
from looking through past yearbooks to wanting not to be bothered.
I am from a constant switch of new houses,
from meeting new people to parents meeting new spouses.
I am from a family wishing for me to have traditional values,
from helping those in need to always being true to myself.
I am from a world that can sometimes be so cruel,
from not caring about others to breaking an unappreciated rule.
