The Sand Dollar
The sun shines tanning my skin.
Warmth and humidity enclose my body, sand sticks to my body.
A smell of salt sticks to the air.
I walk to our beach spot, with sand between my toes.
“Want to go for a swim” I say.
“Maybe in a little while” my mom replies.
I run into the water, with a smile upon my face.
My goggles squeeze my face as I submerge.
I sift through the sandy bottom looking for a piece of treasure.
I surface…
“Mom look what I found!’
“Make sure to put it back.” she responds
I gaze at the sand dollar, I think to myself “what a unique and magnificent creature.”
It looks dead but be assured that it’s alive.
Again I submerge, I place the sand dollar back in the sand and cause a commotion.
While I’m down in the sand I see a crab, small and fraile it tries to conquer the sand just like a mountain.
The ocean is a forest, peaceful but living things are all around.
I gaze and see the crab has conquered his sandy enemy.
At last I surface… With a new perspective of land.
I realize how lucky I really am.
I walk up the mushy shore to our spot and lay down on my towel.
I think to myself “I never realized how big I can be, until I see what’s around me…”

This piece was inspired for me to write, after I thought back to my trip to Florida with my brother, his girlfriend, my sister, and my mom. We stayed in Ft.Myers in a private neighborhood of town houses, it was some of the most fun I have ever had in my whole life, the weather was great and the best was I was with my family.
