The Moment
I stood in a crowd of 50,000 people,
a U.S flag draped around my shoulders.
It was the 65th minute.
The air was tense,
nobody dared to make a sound
This could be the defining moment in the game
the moment where
the U.S moves on
the moment where
it will all be worth it
the moment where
everything changes.
Carli Lloyd steps us to the penalty spot.
One,
two,
three steps back.
Everyone in the stadium was holding their breath.
Everyone in the U.S is holding their breath.
One step forward.
Silence.
Two steps forward.
Silence.
Three steps forward.
Silence.
The ball soared through the air,
and landed in the back of the net.
The crowd erupted into cheers
and in that moment everything changed.
Carli Lloyd did it.
She did it.
She did it for herself,
she did it for her team,
and she did it for her country.
