The Adrenaline Of Fear
My shaky arms were clutched to the sides,
taking every bit of power that I needed.
Beneath me,
the waves were calming my body.
Above me,
the summer sun shined and made my shoulders seem crisped.
The tubes surfaced already damp,
its water cold and frigid.
My hair neatly combed and braided,
short hairs tickled the side of my face,
while it cascaded the back of my life jacket.
The pine trees surrounding looked black,
like tall dark monsters in the woods.
The boat’s engine grew louder with a high intensity.
My eyesight blurred quickly,
the rope was getting pulled harshly.
On my right,
cries were heard loudly.
Em and Montse’s faces were scrunched up,
water splashed their faces.
Bump, Splash, Bump.
Their knuckles turned white as they squeezed the handles.
Two black shadow were seen from the boat’s end,
hands went high above.
They moved in motion,
forming a patterned movement.
Quickly,
we spun onto our knees,
which shook with every wave that trampled under us.
On my left,
Montse and Em copied my moves,
a determined look was settled.
With a strong jolt,
our feet landed on the wet fabric.
My mind reached the negatives,
fear was evident with some adrenaline.
Our tubes nailing each other back and forth,
we grabbed onto each other's slippery hands, trying to balance.
It was all a blur,
until, with one small squeal from my throat,
The blue water clouded my vision.
