Still I'll Rise
I wondered was my love too strong
because we didn't last long.
Were your words all lies
or did you think I wouldn't rise?
We were floating on cloud nine,
and I just knew you were all mine.
I had this feeling in my heart
that we'd never be torn apart.
You tore me down,
and I knew, without you, I'd drown.
You broke my heart in two.
How to fix it? I didn't have a clue,
but still, like Superwoman, I'll rise.
You said, " Our love is forever."
Boy weren't those words clever.
We had so much ambition,
but you messed up our vision.
Still, standing all alone, I'll rise.
Mama always said there was no love without war.
I guess that was my que to get off the floor.
I have to dry my teary eyes
and show you and those other guys
that still, without you, I'll rise.

I terrible break-up with my high school sweetheart inspired me to write this poem. I hope that every girl out there who's going through a terrible break-up reads my poem and understand that it's okay to cry for awhile. I also want them to understand that they will overcome it and RISE! I like to think of it as a "minor setback for a major comeback."
