The watching Rifle, WWl

I watch them play All day Long
In their trenches, singing there song,
Waiting for the officers to shout,
Grab your guns and make your way out.

as i am grabbed by my faithful friend,
He looks down my barrel from the end,
Wishing that he could stay alive,
As he pushes me up, to live, to strive.

I lie here alone, wounded and muddy,
Next to my dead friend, my only buddy.
Waiting for someone to find our souls,
Still lying here as the night falls.
