A New Beginning
Me acerco a mi casa.
Puedo ver a mi esposa y mis hijos bellos.
Voy afuera.
El mundo me saluda por primera vez
Y dice hola.
Un nuevo principio.
A New Beginning
As I walk through the field
The flowers smile at me for the last time
And bid me farewell.
The trees greet me for the last time
And bid me farewell.
The sun lights me up with its love for the last time
And bids me farewell.
The wind caresses my body for the last time
And bids me farewell.
The grass kisses my bare feet for the last time
And bids me farewell.
The birds sing my name for the last time
And bid me farewell.
My house draws near.
I can see my wife and my beautiful children.
They give me hugs as strong as savage conquerors—not like children.
The power of love is infinite.
The honey of their sadness rolls down their cheeks.
But when they smile at me, I know that our hearts will forever be as one.
I lay down on my bed and extinguish the light that illuminates my body.
Nevertheless, I rise again.
I go outside.
The world greets me for the first time
And says hello.
A new beginning.

When we were writing this poem, we didn’t have to think about it; it was as if we were channeling our hearts onto the paper. Death affects us all, but it is often hard to find solace in the thought that someone’s life ends when they die. A perspective that seems to be more “optimistic,” per se, is that which defines death as the start of something more. Even though the body dies, the soul lives on and is given a beginning—a new beginning.
