I Am From
I am from staring out the glass windowpane at night.
wondering what I'll ever do with my life,
admiring the stars dancing up in the sky,
Of wanna-be dreams and washed up teens is where I'm from.
I'm from "If you really try, you can pursue this,"
to causing a raucous and being a nuisance,
to always wondering if I really am useless,
From high hopes and even higher slopes is where I'm from.
I'm from a generaqtion of "I can'ts",
to "what if's", "how come's", second thoughts and wasted chances.
to doubting yourself and taking everything for granted,
Of procrastionation leading to empty handed is where I'm from.
I am from where dreams are dreamed but mostly broken,
from never listening enough to the words being spoken,
from feeling meaningless, blank and heartbroken,
Of the twenty first century is where I'm from.
And at last, we know what we must do,
we must make a difference and share it with you,
because we are tired of being doubted through and through,
Because where I'm from, it's the world versus you.

I just found this piece on my flashdrive from my senior year of high school. I hope it inspires some of you to really take life by the horns and not drift into the stereotypical category the rest of the world has classified us as. We are a brilliant and creative generation and we have the power and knowledge to change the world for the better. There's no time like now!
