Her brave face falters
Her brave face falters
Her knees buckle
She falls to the floor
She can’t remember
The last time she cried
But she just couldn’t take any more
She puts her palms together
Bows her head
And whispers a soft prayer
The tear on her cheek
Trickles down her neck
And dampens her dark hair
She steadies her breaths
Lifts her head
And slowly opens her eyes
Doesn’t know what it is
But something has brought
Some clarity back to her life
Could’ve been nothing
Could’ve been something
Maybe that something is special
All she knows
Is that the pain is over
And for that she is ever grateful

I wrote this poem after composing a piece of music. The song I wrote (a duet for the cello and violin) is entitled "Shedding the Brave Face" and it inspired me to create literary work to go along with the notes.
