Street Corner

You were a broke down singer with scars on his arms singing for change on a cold street corner
I was just a lost girl in a lonely world who stopped and asked you for directions
On that cold little street corner down from the pub.
It was whirlwind romance right from the start.
I lost my head and you stole my heart.
You made me cry when you told me the story of your scars
And I made you laugh when I told you every embarrassing story from my past just to see you smile.
You drank too much and smoked a lot.
But that never bothered me.
You took me to your favourite places in the city,
I took you home and gave you the couch,
Now you sleep there while I sleep upstairs.
You were selfish, sarcastic, a little broken and a little dramatic
But I loved you more than life itself,
I just couldn’t tell you yet.
I taught you to live and you taught me breathe.
While we sat on our corner out of the rain
We argued music till one of us got mad.
You’d call me an idiot
I’d call you a music snob
And watch your green eyes go dark
Then you’d follow me home
Where we’d dance in the dark.
I loved you from the start
And finally learned to tell you
The day you left me
When the sky cleared and the air turned cold.
