4 A.M.
The silence crawls into the depths of my ears and evokes vibrations that shake the thoughts put to bed. Tucked under the covers, they jump up and pound down the doors of their twin sisters, Fear and Doubt. I can’t help but stare at shadowed walls as they play in my mind where the feeling of your warm fingers intertwined in mine still has the power to send thoughts exploding like fireworks. The red numbers on my nightstand burn through my eyes, focused off to a place where we once shared a moment of silence. A single flicker is enough to start the tornado. Spinning fast, images of the lies and the limitless mistakes claw against the sides of my skull, begging to be set free through the migration of tears down my cheek. Will it ever go away? Will there ever be a time where I can certain of something other than the shade of black behind my eyelids? Restless, I toss and turn in my bed in time with the chirps of the crickets, as the silence becomes more alive.
