Dear Cancer
Dear Cancer,
Why, all I ask is why.
We never think you'll attack,
but when you do we're never ready.
Our world was slowly dying,
I feel it everyday,
and so does she.
Dear Cancer,
You try to knock him down,
as if you stole his crown.
You think you can win,
but nothing compares to the fight you’re about to begin.
He'll stay strong and fight through it all,
to stand up after the times he may fall.
Dear Cancer,
You cause too much mental pain, it's driving me insane,
that of which words could never describe.
You force him to walk on the edge of his life,
struggling… fighting not to fall.
The hardest and scariest thing of this all,
is knowing that at some point we have to let go, let you go.
Dear Cancer,
He holds his head high,
acting as if he is on top of the sky.
Then you come into his life,
like he's being threatened with a knife.
But we have enough hope,
just enough for you and I both.
Dear Cancer,
every meal, every birthday party,
every hug, every word, every touch,
every smile, every ¨I love you.¨
Who knew what could be the last.
Now it all seems to matter.
All because you, a disease, chose him as it's next victim.
Dear Cancer,
You come at the most unexpected hour,
he's struggling to survive as you take away all his power.
You put our family in a warzone,
we pray that he'll win this battle on his own.
The truth is… when we get the news,
one will win and one will lose.
Dear Cancer,
I can't stand to think about her pain,
her sleepless nights,
her limitless worries,
which are as countless as the numbers.
She watched your every breath,
hoping and praying that it wouldn't be your last.
Dear Cancer,
She thought this must be repeating bad dreams,
but they say everything is not what it seems.
Then one September night, 2 years…
you left my mother in endless tears.
Grandpa you will be forever in her heart,
each and every tiny little part.
