A kite is a child
Born from paper and wood
Carried out by its fliers to an empty field
Held close, preciously loved
They prepare to launch him into the vast blue sky
Scared by this new experience,
The kite doesn’t budge and stays safe near the ground
After much coaxing, the kite becomes curious,
Timid at first he wavers in the wind
Sometimes turning back and landing in the field
But his fliers are persistent, fixing him
Launching him again and again
In hopes he will succeed
And he does

He flies through the air
Forgetting all his worries
Twisting and twirling with his new friend, the wind
Higher and higher they climb enjoying the carefree day
At day’s end, his fliers begin to pull him in,
But he resists,
Tugging harder and harder on the string
Finally he is forced to land
Yearning, staring up at the starry sky
From the back window of the car

Day after day he comes back and flies higher,
Experiencing new heights in his world
Until one day with a loud SNAP,
He breaks away
To make his way in the world
His fliers watch sadly as he floats towards the sunset
But they know he will be all right
For they have taught him well.
