The Text That Took a Life
BEEP! BEEP!
I reached to the phone
Just to say “on the way home”
It all happened so fast
All I heard was the loud crash
Awakened by sirens flashing red, blue, and white
People racing around, a mother screamed, “Is my baby alright?!”
The world spun
My first instinct was to run
I reached for the car door
To find my arm covered in blood and gore
I stepped out of the car and collapsed to the ground
Next thing I knew police and paramedics gathered around
I was placed on a stretcher,
To my right, a frantic mother
To my left, a small child covered with blood
The mother was later consoled with a hug
I felt myself losing consciousness
The last words I heard were “Two year old female, pronounced dead at the scene.”
“Cause of death: A texting teen”
All I could think was, I caused this mess
Did I really need to send that text?
