A Penny's Story
Once there was a penny in a man’s pocket,
And the penny fell out and into the street.
The man chased after it and yelled “Watch it!”
As the people watched the penny rolling beneath their feet.
Now there was a penny in the street,
Rolling along its merry way.
The penny never missed a beat,
As it rolled straight into a sewer grate.
Now there was a penny in the sewer,
Floating along in the filthy water.
This lucky penny’s luck could not be fewer,
As it flowed straight into a pile of fodder.
Now there was a penny in a pile of fodder,
When the garbage-man came down to clean.
And as he cleaned, he stepped in some of the fodder,
And the penny stuck to the man’s feet.
Now there was a penny stuck to a man’s shoe,
As the man climbed back up into the street.
The penny unstuck, and do you know who
Picked it up next? Someone you needn’t meet.
It was the man from before who was to be blamed
For dropping this penny into the street.
“Well, a lucky penny,” he exclaimed,
And again they meet.

As an aspiring kindergarten teacher, I am always on the lookout for new and fun children's stories. I wrote this one in the hopes of someday illustrating it and getting it published. It would be amazing to read it to my class someday.
