Everything was Grey
Everything was grey, the sky was grey, and the cobbled streets were grey,
Everything she saw with her own eyes was grey,
She felt as if she was colour-blind even though she was not,
She could not see the life and colours that were once very much there,
She stared out of the window,
She saw Nazis dressed in grey uniforms shouting at the Jews walking by in the Ghetto,
The Ghetto itself was also grey,
Tears started falling from her eyes, dripping onto the diary in her hands,
Drip Drip her tears fell from her face onto the page mixing in with the ink,
Her heart was heavy as it turned from red to grey,
She felt grey
Everybody did,
Her mother yelled out, “Rutka Laskier!”,
Ruth quickly closed her green diary and placed it under the floorboard,
She walked to her mother
The diary still on her mind,
That was the last time she ever saw green.
