Blood on the Leaves

Hooves sift through foliage,
a white tail flits with bliss.
Alluring crown of bones,
spirit of innocence.
Graze on the leaves.
Dire eyes fall upon prey,
temptation boils it’s blood.
Fur covers a shortface,
  grizzled paws move silent.
     Stalk on the leaves.
Still fingers rest on string,
a stone arrowhead drawn.
A quiver made from hide,
  war paint marks the hunter.
     Watch on the leaves.
Innocence alerted,
wide eyes become narrow.
Black paws prepare to lunge,
  a wooden arrow takes aim.
     Strike on the leaves.
Thee beasts make deadly moves.
Surprise trumps evasion.
Precision beats strength.
  Patience only survives.
     Blood on the leaves.
