Why Can't I Just Be?
Why can’t I just be?
I wish I was free
From living in a place
So full of hate
Where people are always competing
Hoping that if you do, you’ll be succeeding
It’s like if you don’t compete
You’ll face defeat
You’ll fall flat on your face
And won’t pick up the pace
Of the rest of the people
Who are as busy as bees trying to beat people
Trying to succeed
Bustling around like chickens and always in need
Of money, of power, each planting an evil seed
Destroying the earth so they can “succeed”
I can’t help but question why we can’t just be
Why we can’t just stop for a second and see
That there’s much more that money and glamour
Money that speaks evil in our ears like a bickering hammer
And tells you that you need more
It’s an evil lure
As if our lives are so set
Focused on possible debt
And that if we don’t go to college and see
If we don’t get that money heavy degree
The world will end
Cause we won’t get tons of money, and we’ll descend
In failure as we wallow in our self-pity
And we’ll feel so itty bitty
Always so stressed
Continually wanting more, obsessed
But in the end, we often realize
Everything we couldn’t see before with our eyes
And that all that glamour isn’t all there is
But we realize this too late, for we can’t go back and change what is
