Your Love, Jewel
You always called me your jewel
But it was your eyes that were the color of emeralds
“My jewel.” you would call
“My love.” I would respond.
I painted my nails amethyst
I tinted my lips garnet
Your eyes always had a diamond sparkle
When you looked at me.
In my dreams we would fly over Peridot Mountains
In the day we would walk down citrine paved streets.
And though we talked of life filled with rubies and pearls,
We could only talk, and dream
Of swimming in sapphire seas
With opal scattered on the beach
Because all we really had were dirty rocks from the river
And cracked seashells caked in sand and mud
And each other
Precious, valuable, and hard to find
It was love like Alexandrite.
It should have been me that drowned
Trying to save you
But the water took you,
And swallowed you whole
“My love!” I tried to call,
But I choked on the sea,
And knew it was not the sapphire sea we’d imagined
And I knew the streets would never be paved with citrine again,
And my dreams would be of your emerald eyes
With their diamond sparkle
But I would only have my dreams
As we only had our dirty rocks.
And cracked seashells.
I miss you.
I love you.
Your love,
Bijou
