In this white plastic wastebin
I lay thee to rest
And in doing so cast off
In wistful reflection
A quality of merit and endearance
Softly buried beneath empty pill bottles
And used tissue paper.

My quiet companion
Who spoke not unto me
Yet in the act of being separated from me
Contradicts that which
My character represents
And slips the net of physical impression.

Nostalgia and impression
For which I yearn yet concede
In order to have experienced again
Beyond feeble recollection
That which elicited my endearment
And harboured my attachment.

Nihil sub sole novum
I lay thee to rest
That I may grow you again.

The author's comments:

One important thing to consider is the connotation associated with a Neckbeard. We few and proud who carry these badges of honor are the sort of geeks who aren't out of place at the Dungeons and Dragons table, frequent anime and comic book conventions, and wear their glasses with a unique sincerity. I am proud to count myself among those men.

Also, "Nihil sub sole novum" is a Latin phrase meaning "There is nothing new under the sun", suggesting that there is nothing truly novel in life.
