A Couplet of Sweets
I used to eat quite a few sweeties,
when one day I got diabetes.
No more tootsie rolls, they said;
I was sure I would rather be dead!
But when I picked up some carrots,
I found out their merits
Coupled with fruit purée,
I ate them all day
Better than any candy cane;
Vegetables are the best in a way I can't explain!

Although the poem sounds quite lighthearted and silly, it was inspired by a very serious matter. My dad was diagnosed with diabetes a long time ago, and I saw for myself how difficult it was for him to transition from his usual diet/obsession with sweets and junk food to vegetables and healthy food. I'm hoping that my poem can help motivate others going through the same problem! You can do it! :-)
