Ode to My Swing
You transport me into another world,
allowing me to fly into a peaceful place
where I know you’ll protect me.
The wind softly pushes
the fresh smell of grass and flowers
and the faint smell of the last rainfall
into my face.
I soar over the field below,
your tattered rope
threatening to drop me.
Yet, you always know
when to hold me
and when to let me fall.
You’re my Giving Tree.
I know I can tell you
all my secrets
and my lies
and you’ll still be there waiting for me.
Oh swing, how you carry me through the seasons!
Through the icy touch of the winter’s snow
and the blooming of bright flowers.
Through the overwhelming heat and long nights of summer
and the dropping of dead leaves onto wilted grass.
You’ve shown me its okay to let it go,
and it’s okay to cry and scream.
Because sometimes,
you just need the extra little push,
that you’ve given me,
to know it will be okay.
