A neighborhood, full of life
Sun shining, warm and inviting
The outdoors are perfect for playtime
Yet the kids are gone
Parents are out doing the chores
Walking the dog, mowing the lawn
Where are the kids?

The kids are inside
On computers, phones and TVs
They are hermits,
Communicating only through screens
Blocking out everything else
Forgetting all they have ever done and seen
Slowly becoming large and immobile like a boulder
Slowly becoming older

Twenty years ahead
There is no crime
No protests, nor environmental problems
There are no stores, banks, or jails
No one to start protests, or cause problems
Where are the adults?
In their beds, no care of time
Commenting and posting more and more
As the world prospers, civilization dies

The future isn’t set in stone
Electronics don’t deserve your full attention
Step out of virtuality
And step into reality
Enjoy your life because you only have one
You can always enjoy it
Out in the sun

As I look around, I notice many people using every opportunity they have to play, text, or check a social networking site on their phone. I personally do not have a phone, but whenever I can i'm watching TV or playing on the computer. This doesn't necessarily have to stop completely though, that isn't the point i'm trying to get across. You can still play on these devices, just don't shut yourself off from the people around you.
