Do You Remember Me?
Do you remember when I
Would hold you late into the nights
So I wouldn’t have to see you cry?
Do you remember our fights?
When it felt like the whole city
Was missing all its lights
And it was just you and me?
Do you remember when
I would eventually see
That you had been
Right all the time and I
Just hadn’t cared to listen?
Remember that time
When I told you my deepest secret?
When you swore not to cry
If I wouldn’t make it frequent
What I was doing to myself
Even if it weakened
Me? I didn’t care about anything else
But saving you and her,
Do you remember me giving up on myself
To rescue you and your
Crazed thoughts about life
While I slowly sank into the score
Of thoughts that slice
Into my lonely mind and take
Me over in spite
Of the defenses I make,
And do you remember me?

I was inspired by a very close ex-friend of mine. She and I were dangerously close, where everything we knew the other knew too. I was scared of how much she knew about me and how much she pressed me to tell her everything. I was hospitilized eventually, and she hurt me badly afterwards, yelling about how I needed to tell her what had happened. We haven't spoken since. I wrote "Do You Remember Me" based off of how much I loved her and how our relationship is now.
