I Hear Youth Calling
I hear youth calling, the assortment of different sounds I hear,
Those of children of all different ages, each with a different tune.
The babies calling for their mothers with tears streaming down their faces because they lost their
pacifiers,
The terrible twos calling, or better yet, screaming, to everyone and everything in sight
The young toddlers calling out for their fathers to get them more juice and cheerios
The children calling each other over plastic cellphones, trying to contact one another
from across the room because they want to be “grown up”
The pre-teens calling their friends talking about the latest gossip and about how
they can’t wait to be adults
And the teenagers wishing life would slow down and stop calling for them because in reality,
they’re afraid of the future.
