The Moon
The moon remembers
the way your small voice was the wailing wind
a cold night when he stopped calling you "love"
and your heart was split
Mom asked why your throat was bloody
but you brushed her off with a shrug
The moon listens
when the silent tears track down your pale cheeks
She weeps streaks of silver onto the ground
and lights the sky
her tears are rivers of grief for you
wishing you could see her shining
The moon whispers
"I love you more than he could" in hushed tones
the shatter of your heart is deafening
and drowns her out
She sings her lonely song just for you
but there are blinding stars in your eyes
