Reflections
Glinting sunlight softly streams,
Reflecting golden off a string of luminescent pearls
effortlessly, luxuriously, strung out on a vanity table
Eye catching
Memory catching
Memories of bright white sand beaches
Black sand beaches
rugged cliffs lined with green
a place called Maui
Of glittering teal water that reflected in the setting sun
So clear the deepest depths and the brightest coral were visible
Of kayaks and surfboards and heavy backpacks
Of a tiny old snowcone hut residing calm and resolute
beside huge, crashing waves tearing up a jagged coast
Of Christmas spent beneath palm trees not pine
Presents present still but experiencing a whole different feeling
A juxtaposed seasonal time
Of these presents one winked in the sunlight
A string of pearls inside a small red box
A memento of this moment
Then the necklace made its way back to our home
To be worn occasionally
but mostly it's just left on the vanity
Still and dignified
Reflecting golden light
But it always catches the eye
With its unique glint
Reflecting the light
And it's unique story
Reflecting back on time
A rainbow of colors catches the light
But the memories it holds captures the mind
