Self Confidence

I have never spoken softly.
My being will fill the room,
Though confidence is costly.

“Conceited” gets spit at me constantly,
But I spent too long hating myself, so it’s safe to assume
That I never will speak softly.

Does my great self-esteem scare you? Hopefully.
Modesty’s not a virtue,
Even though confidence is costly.

People have the nerve to call me cocky
While there are young girls starving their way to the tomb,
So I never will speak softly.

Speaking loud can be a difficulty,
But when I hear injustice my voice resonates throughout the room,
Though confidence is costly.

Name hurricanes after women and call war machines “she”.
We know we’re strong and we don’t bleed perfume,
So we never will speak softly,
Though confidence is costly.
