'Twas the Night Before New Years
‘Twas the night before New Years and all through the house,
My parents were leaving and so was my blouse,
Their bottles were kept in the cabinet with care,
Soon to be broken out by a silly double dare,
Kids started showing up,
with a bunch of red cups,
ready to party,
and kiss the cute hotties,
Music was blasting, songs were sung,
And not just the Christmas decorations were hung,
Shirts and panties were strung through the place,
Drunkies had sharpie all over their face,
Rooms were occupied, with couples in love,
At least that’s what they thought, as they slid on their glove,
People were dancing and having a good time,
Hoping in the morning their livers would be fine,
I guess you could say this is the teenage dream,
But to them the fun was always in the scheme,
People get drunk and have a good laugh,
But their parents won’t be having fun when they’re talking on their behalf,
Kids will be kids but when will it stop,
When they see blue and red, signaling a cop?
Or when their wrists are finally bound,
Or maybe when they’re six feet deep in the ground,
You may say this is harsh, I think so too,
Everyone has their different view,
But what if one day this is YOUR kid,
And you’re wishing you could undo what they did,
I know this isn’t fair, I know it’s sad,
But you can blame it on this generation, it’s their bad,
People are in danger because of one too many drinks
Lives are lost, in a matter of blinks,
No one is safe, we know it’s inevitable,
but no one wants to end up on their couch like a vegetable,
But aren’t we supposed to wait until we’re twenty-one?
we all say “chill, we’re just having fun,”
So what I’m trying to tell you, is, why take your life away?
When you could wake up and live another day,
So be careful with your decisions in 2015,
Remember, you’re still just a teen.

This poem was supposed to be a parody of the famous poem, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas". Reilley and I turned our parody into a poem that promotes health and wellness in teens and in future generations.
