Whitecoat Harp Seal- The struggle is real
Born on chunks of ice, surrounded by the slushy sea,
there aren’t many left of my kind.
  I stay on land,
  away from predators lurking.
Everyday is a struggle to survive.
Always near a crack in the ice,
  I am not safe.
  Polar bears creep behind me,
so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Everyday is a struggle to survive.
My body flops as I throw myself into the water,
  safe for only a moment.
When the sound of movement is gone,
I return to sunning myself on the clear, slippery ice.
Everyday is a struggle to survive.
  The sun goes down,
I drift into a deep sleep.
Today I managed to stay alive,
  but…
Everyday is a struggle to survive.
